Until now, the asset&#8217;s inflationary mechanism provided for regular issuance without a strict limit. This fundamental change now aligns <strong>Polkadot<\/strong> with logic similar to that adopted by <a href=\"https:\/\/preprod.investx.fr\/en\/learn\/crypto\/ethereum\/\">Ethereum<\/a> after the deployment of <strong>EIP-1559<\/strong> or by <a href=\"https:\/\/preprod.investx.fr\/en\/learn\/crypto\/bitcoin\/\">Bitcoin<\/a> through its <strong>structural halving<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">The new 2.1B cap of DOT means that supply will increase by just 29% over the next 135 years.<br><br>\u2192 7.4% issuance rate today<br>\u2192 3.3% issuance rate in March 2026 <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/V7jWjl9xPw\">pic.twitter.com\/V7jWjl9xPw<\/a><\/p>&mdash; Polkadot (@Polkadot) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Polkadot\/status\/1970430677146542322?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">September 23, 2025<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Currently, the circulating supply amounts to approximately <strong>1.6 billion tokens<\/strong>. This new cap therefore implies a potential creation of <strong>500 million DOT<\/strong>, or about <strong>29%<\/strong> of the current supply. The objective of this reform is to establish controlled growth of the money supply over the long term. The creation of the remaining tokens will be spread over a period of <strong>135 years<\/strong>, making any inflationary pressure negligible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"progressive-reduction-in-emission-rate\">Progressive Reduction in Emission Rate<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Currently, DOT&#8217;s annual emission rate stands at <strong>7.4%<\/strong>. However, with this reform and starting from <strong>March 2026<\/strong>, it will progressively drop to <strong>3.3%<\/strong>, according to team projections. This slowdown in monetary creation reinforces the <strong>deflationary aspect<\/strong> of the network, while stimulating long-term investor interest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the hours following the announcement, the price of DOT saw a slight increase, reaching a peak of <strong>$4.06<\/strong>, up from <strong>$3.94<\/strong> previously. At the time of writing, the token is trading around <strong>$4.03<\/strong>, up 1.1% over 24 hours. However, trading volume remains down, with a marked decline of 40% to reach $279 million.
