Within 24 hours, the market recorded over <strong>$1.09 billion in liquidations<\/strong>, a figure that speaks to the violence of the move. What&#8217;s striking about this drop is the nature of the liquidated positions: approximately <strong>92%<\/strong> of these losses came from long positions (bulls), predominantly on <a href=\"https:\/\/preprod.investx.fr\/en\/learn\/crypto\/bitcoin\/\">Bitcoin<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">24hr Liquidations hit $1.07b<br><br>Long : $1.01B<br>Short : $62.07M<br><br>According to CoinGlass data, In the past 24 hours 179,847 traders were liquidated, the total liquidations comes in at $1.07 billion.<br><br>The largest single liquidation order happened on Bitget &#8211; BTCUSDT_UMCBL value\u2026 <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/hFIvZ6asFU\">pic.twitter.com\/hFIvZ6asFU<\/a><\/p>&mdash; MartyParty (@martypartymusic) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/martypartymusic\/status\/2013743585070588026?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">January 20, 2026<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>This massive imbalance indicates that traders were excessively confident, heavily positioned for a continuation of the bullish rally. The market, as it so often does, punished this excess optimism with a brutal <strong>long squeeze<\/strong>. The price of <a href=\"https:\/\/preprod.investx.fr\/en\/learn\/crypto\/bitcoin\/halving-date\/\">Bitcoin<\/a> slid down to <strong>$87,000<\/strong>, sweeping stops and excessive leverage accumulated in recent days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"technical-analysis-has-the-key-support-been-broken\">Technical Analysis: Has the Key Support Been Broken?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>From a technical standpoint, the situation deteriorated rapidly. Bitcoin broke through several intermediate support zones without offering significant resistance. The <strong>$91,800<\/strong> level, identified by several analysts as a crucial pivot zone, gave way under selling pressure. This level now acts as an <strong>immediate resistance<\/strong> that bulls will need to reclaim to hope for a trend reversal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Currently, the price is attempting to stabilize around the <strong>$89,000 \u2013 $89,500<\/strong> zone. Momentum indicators, like the RSI, are plunging into oversold territory. Now, <strong>$91,000<\/strong> forms a resistance for BTC. A rejection from this zone and BTC will head towards <strong>$85,000<\/strong> minimum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"scenarios-technical-bounce-or-capitulation\">Scenarios: Technical Bounce or Capitulation?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The market stands at a crossroads. Two major scenarios are emerging for the coming hours:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Bullish Scenario (Bounce):<\/strong> Bitcoin manages to defend the $88,000 &#8211; $89,000 zone and initiates a technical bounce. The first target would be to reclaim <strong>$90,000<\/strong>, then attack the $91,800 resistance. A daily close above this level would invalidate the thesis of a deeper crash.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Bearish Scenario (Correction):<\/strong> If selling pressure persists and the $87,800 support gives way, the door would open to a more severe correction. Bears could then target the <strong>$85,000<\/strong> zone, a significant liquidity level that hasn&#8217;t been tested in several weeks.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The purge of leveraged positions has cleaned up the market, but sentiment remains fragile and many longs are still underwater.
