This was revealed by <strong>Geoffrey Kendrick<\/strong>, Global Head of Digital Asset Research at Standard Chartered Bank.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Coinbase dumped a whole lot of ETH in Q4. <br><br>As per Standard Chartered, the accumulated in Q2 &amp; Q3. They also have generated a lot of ETH through Base fees. <br><br>Not a bad trade considering ETH&#39;s most recent peak was in December. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/RwkIfq95l4\">pic.twitter.com\/RwkIfq95l4<\/a><\/p>&mdash; Nic (@nicrypto) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/nicrypto\/status\/1902678733506359482?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 20, 2025<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Based on Coinbase&#8217;s quarterly results analysis, Kendrick estimates that nearly <strong>80% of revenues<\/strong> generated by <strong>Base<\/strong>, the platform&#8217;s Ethereum <a href=\"https:\/\/preprod.investx.fr\/en\/crypto-news\/top-3-layer-2-cryptos-set-to-skyrocket-march-2025\/\">Layer 2<\/a>, translate into profits. According to him, the company strategically carried out these ether sales by net buying in the third quarter when the price was lower and then reselling in the fourth quarter when the price reached <strong>$4,000.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>&#8220;The fact that they net bought in Q3 (when prices were low on average) and net sold in Q4 (when prices were higher on average) shows that Coinbase is acting like any risk-adjusted profit maximizer would,&#8221; Kendrick said in his note.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons is-content-justification-center is-layout-flex wp-container-core-buttons-is-layout-16018d1d wp-block-buttons-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-button\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link wp-element-button\" href=\"https:\/\/t.me\/+ltIyBZXk4GtmOWU8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Want to join our group ? Click here !<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"coinbase-refutes-trading-allegations\"><strong>Coinbase Refutes Trading Allegations<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>On the other hand, <strong>Coinbase <\/strong>acknowledged selling some of its <strong>ether <\/strong>to <strong>fund its operations<\/strong>, without specifying the amounts involved. The company denied allegations that it regularly engages in <strong>trading activities<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>&#8220;Base earns <strong>ETH <\/strong>from sequencer fees, and the ETH we earn is mainly held for<strong> long-term investment<\/strong> or used for operational expenses, including <strong>tax liabilities<\/strong> and <strong>reinvestment <\/strong>in growth through things like salaries, grants, acquisitions, and funding for public goods,&#8221; a Coinbase spokesperson said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>According to Kendrick&#8217;s calculations, <strong>Coinbase&#8217;s <\/strong>net ETH sales over the last three quarters amount to <strong>1,558 units<\/strong>, suggesting a strategic selling model rather than long-term accumulation.
