Nic Carter, General Partner at Castle Island Ventures, concisely responded to Lyn Alden&#8217;s question, the founder of Lyn Alden Investment, about the biggest structural risk for <a href=\"https:\/\/preprod.investx.fr\/en\/crypto-investing\/buy\/bitcoin\/\">Bitcoin<\/a> in the <strong>next 5-10 years<\/strong>: &#8220;quantum computing.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed aligncenter is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">I increasingly agree.<br><br>That was the catalyst for my thread\/question, tbh.<\/p>&mdash; Lyn Alden (@LynAldenContact) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/LynAldenContact\/status\/1904262504638783832?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 24, 2025<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>In fact, future quantum computers could break the encryption algorithms securing Bitcoin, like <strong>Elliptic Curve Digital Signature Algorithm (ECDSA)<\/strong> protecting <strong>Bitcoin wallets.<\/strong> If a sufficiently powerful quantum computer emerges, it could<strong> falsify digital signatures<\/strong>, allowing attackers to steal BTC from any wallet with an exposed public key.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to River&#8217;s research, a quantum computer with <strong>1 million qubits<\/strong> could falsify a Bitcoin address. <strong>Microsoft <\/strong>also claims that its new Majorana chip is paving the way towards this crucial milestone. As highlighted by <a href=\"https:\/\/preprod.investx.fr\/en\/crypto-investing\/\">investor <\/a>MisterSpread, <em>&#8220;the biggest structural risk is the friction between Bitcoin&#8217;s decentralized ethos and the growing push towards centralized regulatory oversight.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Indeed, data from BitcoinTreasuries shows that over the past five years, BTC holdings of <strong>private companies<\/strong>, public companies, <strong>governments<\/strong>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/preprod.investx.fr\/en\/crypto-news\/trump-media-partners-crypto-com-launch-crypto-etfs\/\">ETFs<\/a> have surged over <strong>12 times<\/strong>, rising from<strong> 210,000 BTC to over 2.6 million BTC<\/strong>. This increased involvement of institutions could lead to legal pressures or unwanted changes to Bitcoin network fundamentals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed aligncenter is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">I estimate that $140K is where the remaining Bitcoiners &amp; retail sell all their BTC. The ultimate irony is that after a decade of hodling, Bitcoiners will have no Bitcoin. Billionaires will own it all &amp; it will go to unimaginable prices. However, the recent months have seen a <strong>massive accumulation <\/strong>by institutions and significant sales from individual investors: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>&#8220;I estimate all the remaining Bitcoiners and individuals will sell their BTC at $140,000. The irony is that after a decade of holding, the Bitcoiners will have no more BTC The billionaires will own them all, and their price will reach unimaginable heights. It will be sad to see.&#8221; wrote expert Aimass on X.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>This phenomenon could harm <strong>Bitcoin <\/strong>in the long term. Moreover, the BTC <strong>mining sector<\/strong> is facing a similar fate. Only large-scale infrastructures capable of withstanding low income and competition can survive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In conclusion, as BTC continues to evolve, industry leaders warn that quantum computing and increasing <strong>regulatory surveillance<\/strong> could threaten its security and decentralized nature. Experts emphasize the urgency of implementing quantum-resistant measures before a<strong> potential &#8220;black swan&#8221;<\/strong> disrupts the network.
