The hacker managed to create nearly <strong>$27 million worth of tokens<\/strong>. However, they only succeeded in stealing <strong>$132,000<\/strong> due to the quick response of the Meta Pool team and the <strong>low liquidity<\/strong> of certain pools.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Meta Pool Security Incident Report: mpETH Contract on Ethereum &amp; Next Steps<br><br>We\u2019ve published a full update on the recent incident involving the mpETH contract on Ethereum, including actions taken and what comes next.<br><br>Read more:<a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/qSSjfpqXAZ\">https:\/\/t.co\/qSSjfpqXAZ<\/a><\/p>&mdash; Meta Pool (@meta_pool) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/meta_pool\/status\/1935119387486519582?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">June 17, 2025<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>According to Meta Pool, an <strong>early detection system<\/strong> helped detect the exploit in real-time, giving the team time to pause the affected smart contract and prevent further losses. Additionally, some of the targeted liquidity pools had low liquidity and volume, making it <strong>harder to steal assets<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Although the hacker managed to create <strong>9,705 mpETH tokens<\/strong> worth nearly $27 million, they only managed to steal about <strong>52.5 <a href=\"https:\/\/preprod.investx.fr\/en\/learn\/crypto\/ethereum\/\">Ether (ETH)<\/a><\/strong>. This amounts to just over $132,000 from the liquidity exchange pools. This mixed performance is partially attributed to the <strong>security measures<\/strong> implemented by the Meta Pool team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"fast-withdraw-in-the-crosshairs-of-meta-pool-hackers\">&#8220;Fast Withdraw&#8221; in the Crosshairs of Meta Pool Hackers<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>According to Claudio Cossio, co-founder of Meta Pool, the attacker exploited a <strong>&#8220;fast withdrawal&#8221; feature<\/strong>, also known as &#8220;flash withdrawal&#8221;. This feature allows bypassing the normal waiting period after withdrawing <a href=\"https:\/\/preprod.investx.fr\/en\/crypto-investing\/\">cryptocurrencies<\/a>. This loophole enabled massive creation of mpETH tokens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Update on ETH exploit on Meta Pool:<br><br>&#8211; All ETH staked on Meta Pool is SAFU.<br>&#8211; The amount that was taken by the attacker is approx $47,000 USD<br>&#8211; The exploit affected the fast unstake functionality, allowing the attacker to mint mpETH.<br>&#8211; The attacker minted around 10,600 mpETH.<br>-\u2026<\/p>&mdash; Claudio Cossio (@ccossio) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ccossio\/status\/1935015077096149016?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">June 17, 2025<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Although this attack had limited impacts, it once again highlights the ongoing security challenges faced by DeFi protocols. Rigorous auditing of smart contracts and implementation of <strong>enhanced security measures<\/strong> are crucial to safeguarding user funds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"meta-pool-hack-a-new-wake-up-call-for-defi\">Meta Pool Hack : A New Wake-Up Call for DeFi<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The Meta Pool incident<\/strong> demonstrates that even the most secure protocols can be vulnerable to exploits.
